      Patrick Calhoun married 1st Jane Craighead, daughter of the famous Presbyterian Minister, Rev Alexander Craighead . She died Sept 10, 1766, in the 24th year of her age (b 1742)

      The death of Patrick Calhoun’s first wife was noted in the South Carolina Gazette published in Charleston in its issue of Monday, Oct 14, 1766 and it is stated of her, “one of the most pious and accomplished young women in these parts.”

      Third child of Rev Alexander Craig was:Jane Craighead (1742-1766) married Patrick Calhoun (father of John C Calhoun) They had 2 children, both died young. After her death, Mr Calhoun married a Miss Caldwell of Abbeville, who was the mother of Hon John C Calhoun.
