  Minnie Myrtle (Barnes) Speer was born on September 17, 1886 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, the daughter of J H Barnes and Nancy (Haley) Barnes John Harrison "J H" Barnes (1861-1946) and Nancy Catherine "Nannie" (Haley) Barnes (1863-1953). She was married 1917 to Austin "Flint" Speer (1873-1940), the son of Dr Ephreim Aquilla "E A" Speer (1838-1906) and Elizabeth Henrietta (Lyon) Speer (1841-1884). In 1920 both Minnie and Flint were high school teachers in Rutherford County, and in 1930 Flint was teaching in Nashville, while Minnie was a cashier in a dry goods store. Living at 612 Shelby Avenue, Nashville, Minnie was 53 years old and a widow when she died at home of breast cancer on August 26, 1940. Burial was the next day in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Nashville. Most of the above is from her Death Certificate, with Miss Eva Maye Barnes of 612 Shelby Avenue as the informant.
